SUMMARY:Eléctrico 28 - [THE FRAME]
DESCRIPTION:[ THE FRAME ]\n[The Frame] is an invitation to open our hearts and eyes to the irrelevant and the trivial things in life. Four characters\, trained in observation\, translate what happens on the street with the help of letters that become words and words that become phrases.  \nhttps://festivals.certainblacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/The-Frame-trailer-English-subtitles.mp4\n  \nCREATION PROCESS 2018-2020\nInspired by Georges Perec’s observations and arranging of whatever\, [ The Frame ] proposes to settle down in front of the passing city life in order to observe it\, think it\, calculate it\, designate it and share it… Four characters\, trained in the disciplines of observation and arranging the space\, the things and the beings\, translate what happens with the help of letters that become words and words that become phrases. For some time\, EVERYTHING becomes a big theatre play that never ends. A play without a plot that wants to balance on the triviality of the things that are happening holding on to a magnifiying glass. [ The Frame ] is an invitation to open our heart and eyes for the irrelevant\, the trifle and things. [ The Frame ] is a great opportunity for something. A drastic exercise. We could talk about pens\, but we know\, there are many other things

SUMMARY:Gorilla Circus ‘UNITY’
DESCRIPTION:UNITY is a reflection on community\, an act of protest\, a call for change and a dream for the future. A large-scale aerial spectacular that merges immersive theatre\, circus and community stories in a powerful but intimate way\, allowing audiences to be close to and in amongst the action. \nThe Show \nUNITY is a large-scale production that merges immersive theatre\, circus and community stories in a powerful but intimate way. The scale and height of the performances allows audiences to be close and in amongst the action as hair hanging artists\, dance trapeze and high wire walkers travel overhead. The performers are accompanied by a ‘cast’ of mannequins who floating up from ground level represent a generation of underserved people. In each location a local poet is recruited to create a unique piece of text which is mixed into the existing music to create the soundtrack for the show. The poem and show are divided into 3 sections: \n  \nhttps://festivals.certainblacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/UNITY-Great-Yarmouth.mp4\n  \n UNITY\nThe first section is focussed on the past\, what struggles have communities faced or overcome? do people feel listened to? what positive or negative outcomes have there been? – The second section is a call to action\, what kind of society do we want to live in? What needs to change and how can we achieve it? – Finally\, the third section focuses on the positivity of unified communities striving for a common goal\, what makes people proud of their area? What is their vision for the future? \nSupported by Without Walls Commissioned by Certain Blacks and Norfolk and Norwich Festival

SUMMARY:Working Boys Club - SERVING SOUNDS
DESCRIPTION:Serving Sounds\nHave some fun with this multi-sensory sound installation that serves bass not beer\, and that creates connections through music. As you arrive\, you’ll find ordinary items you’d usually expect to find\, like glasses\, beermats\, the odd bit of change. But at this bar\, these items when touched will create a groove\, a sound\, strings\, a snare\, maybe a guitar\, or synths if you like. \n  \nhttps://festivals.certainblacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Working-Boys-Club.-Serving-Sounds-trailer.mp4\nShow Description\nThe Working Boys Club was founded in 2020 by Jason & Adam Dupree\, identical twins from Poole. Both started in the trades: Adam as car mechanic and Jason as an electrician. Noticing the lack of art made by and for the working class\, they formed The Working Boys Club\, blending their skills from the building site with those learnt in the rehearsal room. \nServing Sounds is a multi-sensory sound installation that creates connection through music – a bar that serves bass rather than beer. The installation is an interactive work\, playful and joyful with spaces for up to four people of all ages to interact with the bar at any one time\, each experience lasting up to the length of a song. As you arrive\, you’ll find the ordinary items you’d usually expect to find\, such as glasses\, beermats\, the odd bit of change. SUMMARY:Sonia Sabri Company - Mughal Miniatures: The Awakening
DESCRIPTION:The Awakening\n‘Mughal Miniatures’ is upbeat and fun\, with performers in sumptuous costumes creating vibrant and colourful mini worlds of dance\, music and puppetry. A series of pop-up\, living pictures evoke scenes of Indian princely courts and lush gardens\, and the glory of the Mughal period with a contemporary twist\, undercutting expectations and delighting and surprising passers-by. \n  \nhttps://festivals.certainblacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Mughal-Miniatures.mp4\n  \nWe invite you to step back in time and join us at court to meet the feisty Queen; to dance as if no one is watching in the monsoon; to tame a cheeky peacock; to hunt in the forest; and to join in the procession of noble elephants. But everything is not as it seems\, and our well-behaved characters have grown tired of their restrictive frames. With the help of you our audience they can break free not only of their pictorial frames\, but also of society’s expectations. \nIndian miniature painting of 9th and 10th century was hugely multicultural\, drawing inspiration from many peoples and cultures. Fittingly therefore\, as with all Sonia Sabri Company’s work\, this project is about bringing different artists\, forms and cultures into dialogue with each other and demonstrating their complementary nature\, as a metaphor for our diverse society at large. \nSupported by \n Without Walls Commissioned  by Brighton Festival\, Hat Fair and Certain Blacks

SUMMARY:Bureau Of Silly Ideas – CARBON FOOTPRINT
DESCRIPTION:How do we get from A to B without destroying the planet? To remind us\, the Bureau of Silly Ideas is putting its best foot forward in a bid to reduce our reliance on our cars. A motorised giant foot will patrol Royal Docks bringing silliness and smiles to the local area. Join us as we walk in the footsteps of great climate activists; we have big shoes to fill. \nBOSI was formed to to explore the concept of engaging people with their public space and urban environment through the use of street theatre. Our creative territories have now moved beyond outdoor street theatre and we have built a reputation for working in all aspects of the public realm; museums and heritage sites\, galleries\, shopping centres\, parks\, theme parks\, festivals\, stations and airports. We are valued as experts in our field\, regularly partaking in consultancy for high level public and private organisations. Based on our knowledge and ability to engage with audiences\, we now receive opportunities to work with teams to develop creative ways of thinking and indeed\, unique pathways to the arts\, heritage and culture.

SUMMARY:Compagnie Krak - THE BENCH INVASION
DESCRIPTION:Hailing from Belgium\, these wanderers go with a bench underarm\, actively inviting people to come and sit next to them. At the end of the afternoon\, participants are invited to meet each other and celebrate a magical moment together! In the pop-up performance Bench Invasion\, artist Dieter Peter Raphaël Missiaen moves into public space with ten local people\, each with a bench under their arm\, looking for contact.! \n\n\n\n\nAt an unannounced moment\, they set up the benches and actively invite people to sit next to them. They are present\, they listen. At the end\, they come together: the bearers of the benches and the sitters. Bystanders are also invited. \n“We convert the benches into one long table in the public space. With words and music\, we toast to the beauty of small encounters and life. In this way\, we (re)connect people\, be present and pay tribute to everything that happens in public space.” \n\n\n\n\nWe sit\, we slow down\, we are present\, we listen\, and after each meeting\, we move!
